Planning for the trip

My wife, Susan, and I are tentatively planning a trip to Ecuador before summer. Currently, our plans are to leave around 1 March, and return on about 25 March. Part of the reason for this timing is that International Living, to which I subscribe, is sponsoring a "Live and Invest Abroad" conference there the first week in March, and we would like to attend, finances and other circumstances permitting.

For the past several years we have been looking more toward Thailand as a retirement home, but given the recent turmoil and problems there, we have concluded that it is just not practical right now.
